Through the windows Names you can choose to view an individual species, genus or family of plants by their names.

To make the selection you should enter the name of the requested family, genus and/ or species or an arbitrary selected combination of these in the respective fields (the small field placed above the fields of lists) by the help of the keyboard. Another option is to choose directly (by the help of the mouse) from the respective list and then to click on the Select button. At each stage the programme will reduce the selection options and the counter will show the number of the currently selected species. By clicking the button Select information on the first of the selected species is shown with the option to view in a consequence the data on the rest of the species. In a case that no selection was made the window with information on the first species, in alphabetical order, will appear, with the subsequent option to view the data on all the remaining 3,849 species.
For example: If in the Family column you choose Birch Family, in the Genus column will remain only "birch, hornbeam, alder and hazel", while in the Species column will appear "European white birch, European hornbeam, oriental hornbeam, European alder, mountain hazel, etc.", i.e. all the genera and species, consisting the Birch family. If you select "Alder" in the Genus column, than in the Species column will appear only the species of the Alder genus, i.e. European, mountain and black alder. If in the Species column, you choose European alder and click on the Select button, then only information on this species of the Birch family will be shown.
If you break the selection at the stage of the genus, in our case "Alder" and click on the Select button, than only information on the first in alphabetical order species of the genus will be shown - in this case Black alder (the alphabetical order being defined by the scientific name - Alnus glutinosa), but you could also view the information on the other two species of the genus.
You may not follow the order Family>Genus>Species given here, by any arbitrarily chosen order.
Besides by the scientific names, you can also make selections by the trivial English names.

The selection principles have been identical in all two languages.
Attention: Not all the species have trivial English names. It is rather likely that a translation exists for only part of the name - that of the family and the genus or only of the genus.
